Skilled Gardeners in South Gloucestershire

Hill Court Parkland

Gareth and his dedicated team of skilled gardeners in South Gloucestershire cover quite a large area. It means we get to work in some fantastic gardens and landscapes across South Gloucestershire and North Somerset and Monmouthshire but it does provide challenges in terms of how prospective clients find us. We have long term associations with gardens and aren’t always in a situation to take on new clients, but over the years people’s situations change, new opportunitites present themselves so there is a gradual evolution of our client base. We are well regarded, but we dont work for alot of clients (who guard us jealously sometimes!) so ‘word of mouth’ is limited in its scope and ‘gardeners near me’ on a Google search isnt always the best option for outfits like us. Highlighting individual garden services such as rose pruning, training fruit trees, renovating ancient Yew hedges or restoring Victoran shrubberies is useful in letting potential client know about the specialist garden services we offer. We do (succesfully) work alongside other resident gardeners who might be looking after the lawns and hedges, our preference is to be responsible for the whole garden landscape. Logistically and emotionally!

One half of the team, Matt & Clare moved out of Bristol a few years ago, now based in North Nibley, ‘on the edge of the Cotswolds, located close to the river Severn between Bristol and Gloucester’. That’s Matt, teetering on the orchard ladder, summer pruning an espalier pear tree at Hill Court in the Severn Vale midway between Berkeley and Thornbury.

Harry based in Lydney so with good access to both out Monmouthshire & South Gloucestershire gardens. Here immersing himself in the art of yew topiary, applying himself to a cloud pruned hedge in Elberton South Gloucestershire.

Across the Severn into Gloucesterhire, Henry and I worked for a number of years at Priors Mesne in the Forest of Dean, pictured below. Henry, taking a sabbatical in Leeds, prompted me to pass the reigns to Ed on this one – I dont think he’ll ever give it back unfortunately. Detailed in  A Gloucestershire Wild Garden: With Some Extraneous Matter Priors Mesne is the original planting of Japanese Knotweed in the country.
